Leaves FSV in summer
A few days ago, Mainz sports director Christian Heidel confirmed that left-back Aarón Martín and the Bundesliga club will definitely part ways. Although the Spaniard, who is plagued by homesickness, has not established himself permanently with the “zero fives”, he could still continue in the German upper house. According to the “Picture” Eintracht Frankfurt is willing to sign Martín for the new season on a free transfer.

SGE sports director Markus Krösche is said to have observed the 26-year-old on the last Bundesliga matchday when Mainz lost 2-3 to Schalke and Martín contributed a goal. It was his 25th appearance of the season, with a total of five goals and three assists. In the first half of the season, Martín was a regular, but recently the professional came off the bench more often or didn’t play any minutes at all.

“Both sides have decided to go their separate ways from the summer,” Heidel said recently. Martín, a homegrown player from Espanyol Barcelona, first went on loan to Mainz in 2018 and, after a convincing first season with five assists in 33 Bundesliga games, was signed for 7 million euros. In the meantime, he played for Celta Vigo on loan for six months. Should he join the obviously interested Eintracht, he could make up ground in the statistics of Spanish players with the most Bundesliga games to the two leaders Javi Martínez and Thiago (both FC Bayern). Martín, in third place, currently has 113 missions.
Room for Martin? Eintracht Frankfurt has 2 experienced left-backs in their squad
With Philipp Max (29) and Christopher Lenz (28), the Frankfurters currently have two seasoned left-backs in the squad. It is unlikely that both players plus Martín will play for the Hessians in the 2023/24 season. According to reports, Martín has options in the Bundesliga, Serie A – FC Torino and FC Bologna were traded in the rumor mill – and in the domestic LaLiga, where ex-club Espanyol could come into play.
On this Saturday afternoon, Mainz 05 and Eintracht Frankfurt meet head-to-head. TM user “Adler84” evaluates the Martín/Frankfurt case as follows: “The rumor comes out just before the game. Which surprise. I find that very interesting, but if he also wants to go back to Spain anyway, the rumor no longer makes any sense. It would also be very hypocritical for him to say in Mainz, thanks for the offer, but I’m going back to Spain, and the next day he signs a contract with SGE in a Spanish restaurant in Frankfurt.”
