Board spokesman Axel Hellmann had criticized Glasner’s behavior after the defeat in Hoffenheim in clear words. “What I absolutely cannot understand is that you take this disappointment out on a journalist who is doing his job.” It was “neither good nor right” to react like that. Hellmann was referring to the press conference at which the 48-year-old verbally attacked a journalist. “We have to deal with the question of whether we are in a form that is forward-looking,” Hellmann also indicates doubts about working with the coach beyond the summer. His contract runs until 2024, Glasner had been repeatedly associated with a premature departure in recent months, but had always denied reports in this direction. Hellmann emphasized that the club had long since made an offer for an extension.

Eintracht Frankfurt: Toppmöller targeted as Glasner’s successor

Accordingly, the SGE is also working on possible successors who could bring a breath of fresh air to the currently fifth most valuable squad in the league from the summer. According to the newspaper, one of them has a name that at least older Eintracht fans are familiar with: Dino Toppmöller, most recently assistant coach to Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern and RB Leipzig and son of former SGE coach Klaus Toppmöller.

The latter had taken over the Adlerträger in the 1993/94 season as the successor to Dragoslav Stepanovic and Horst Heese and, with a furious start with only two defeats from the first 15 games in the Main metropolis, raised hopes that after two third places in a row finally the win the long-awaited championship title. After falling out of the UEFA Cup quarter-finals and two bankruptcies against VfB Leipzig and Bayern, Toppmöller senior had to retire in April 1994 after 39 games and with an average of 1.56 points. Record player Karl-Heinz “Charly” Körbel took over, Eintracht finished fifth.

Now Dino Toppmöller could continue the family history on the Main, the newspaper reports. The 42-year-old, who won the Luxembourg championship three times and won the cup twice with F91 Dudelingen between 2016 and 2019, was recently linked to the Belgian champions and Champions League round of 16 club Bruges after leaving FC Bayern in March . In the 2002/2003 season, Toppmöller had already kicked as a player for Eintracht and managed to get promoted back to the Bundesliga with the previously relegated Hessen team.
