Was in action for Croatia’s U21
Eintracht Frankfurt will be without defender Hrvoje Smolcic for the rest of the season. The Hessians announced on Wednesday evening that the 22-year-old suffered an external meniscus injury in the Croatia U21 international match against England (2-1) on Tuesday and now needs surgery. The club did not provide any further information on how long the central defender will be absent.
Smolcic switched from HNK Rijeka to SGE last summer for 2.5 million euros, where he mostly sits on the bench. This season he played 14 games in all competitions, in which he collected a total of 720 minutes. On Wednesday, the defensive specialist was one of the winners in the Bundesliga market value update: it went from 3 million to now 5 million euros.
