Eintracht Frankfurt would like to keep the current squad together in the long term and avoid extensive changes. “It’s important for us now to have a certain continuity and not have as many departures as we did this summer,” said sports director Markus Krösche on Tuesday. “Now it’s about us being able to compete with the majority of the squad in the next few years in order to achieve our sporting goals.”

After three important regular players, the offensive players Randal Kolo Muani (25), Jesper Lindstrøm (23) and Daichi Kamada (27), were sold last summer, the sixth-placed Frankfurt team tried to close the gaps on the transfer market in the winter. The SGE brought in Sasa Kalajdzic (26), Hugo Ekitiké (21), Jean-Mattéo Bahoya (18) and Donny van de Beek (26).

“It was a very active winter transfer window, which is relatively unusual. Due to the issue in the summer, we had some catching up to do in the offensive area. (…) We have now got the skills that have been missing in recent years: speed and variability on offense as well as stability on defense,” explained the 43-year-old Krösche. “We have taken a good step forward in the last two transfer windows after many top performers left us in the summer.”

Eintracht Frankfurt continues to rely on transfer proceeds

However, he does not completely rule out the possibility that a few professionals could still leave Eintracht. “Basically it’s about which players they are and what the offers look like. No player is unsaleable,” emphasized the sports director. “Overall, we want to keep the squad together. But if a player develops faster than the club and our demands are met, we will let him go. Because we remain somewhat dependent on transfer proceeds.”

But Krösche also made it clear that Eintracht “doesn’t want to have any more major upheavals”. “We have a variability and age structure in the squad that allows us to develop the team further. We are looking forward to being able to play the next few years with this squad in order to take the next step in the long term.” Frankfurt has also signed up for the coming season with Krisztián Lisztes (18), Aurèle Amenda (20) and Nathaniel Brown ( 20) has already secured three up-and-coming talents.

In the Bundesliga, Eintracht is in sixth place and on course for the European Cup, while in the Conference League Union Saint-Gilloise awaits in the first leg of the playoffs on Thursday (6:45 p.m.). “In terms of results, the season is fine, in terms of performance we have fluctuations and there is room for improvement in terms of activity and aggressiveness. “Especially at home, we want to put more pressure on the opponent and force them to make mistakes,” said Krösche, whose team only managed one win in the last four games or failed to win three points in the Bundesliga five times in a row at the start of the season.

“The fact that those around us are expressing dissatisfaction is legitimate. Let’s be honest with ourselves: the way is not the way we imagine. We would like to see less classical music and more heavy metal in the stadium,” Krösche also admitted. “With more courage, determination and consistency, we will score more goals, win more games and it will look more attractive.” Igor Matanovic (20), who is currently on loan to KSC and has played in the last seven games, could also help in the coming season was directly involved in seven goals. “Igor Matanovic plays a good role in Karlsruhe and scores his goals there. We are in discussions about wanting to extend his contract,” said Krösche about the attacker, who is bound until 2026.
