The change saga surrounding Rafael Borré has dominated the media in Frankfurt, Bremen, Brazil and Argentina in recent weeks. The complicated situation surrounding the striker, who was loaned out to Werder Bremen from Eintracht Frankfurt, caused a lot of water level reports. The first official decision has now been made: The 28-year-old Colombian will move to SC Internacional in the summer at the latest, as the SGE and the club from Porto Alegre announced on Wednesday. In Brazil he has a contract until December 31, 2028.

Eintracht, with whom Borré was originally under contract until 2025, can definitely plan on a transfer. Most recently, 6.4 million euros were mentioned, part of which would still flow to Werder if the Green-Whites were convinced to terminate the loan early.

“Rafael Borré will forever be associated with the Europa League victory in 2022 and thus as part of Eintracht’s history. We wish him only the best for his sporting and private future,” explained sports director Markus Krösche in the club’s announcement. The attacker, who came from Argentina’s River Plate on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, scored four goals in the 13 games that won the title, three of them in the last four games. He also scored the decisive penalty in the shootout in the final against Glasgow Rangers. In total, he was directly involved in 27 goals (15 hits, 12 assists) in 92 games.

Frankfurt decision made: Will Borré stay at Werder Bremen until the summer?

With the decision about Borré’s future from summer onwards, the negotiations for Internacional are not yet over. It is still unclear whether Werder is prepared to end the loan early. “We know that Rafa has an offer from Brazil, which his advisor left with us,” said sports director Frank Baumann recently. “But the situation that we don’t want to let him go hasn’t changed. We are not in negotiations with anyone.”

Werder is reportedly insisting on compensation in the seven-figure range. The attacker moved to Weser on Deadline Day in the summer as a replacement for Niclas Füllkrug, who had moved to Dortmund, and scored four goals in 14 games. On Sunday, Borré was in the starting line-up in the 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum and was on the field for 73 minutes.
