Well, I don’t think the whole thing is too dramatic from a Frankfurt perspective. Yes, Götze had really outstanding moments this season. On the other hand, it wasn’t as if he had gone ahead completely as a leading player a la Kostic and could not be replaced for the team. In the worst case, you get a sum somewhere between 5-9 million euros.
If we’re being completely honest, he’s actually not interesting in Germany for the Top 4, or the teams that themselves have a clear claim to be in the Top 4 in Germany (Leverkusen, RB, Dortmund, Bayern). At Union and Freiburg I don’t really see him with his style of play either.
Where should he go then, Frankfurt actually has the most interesting prerequisites in terms of squad, infrastructure, ambitions, city flair and fan community as a total package.
Same game outside of Germany, so it would only be interesting for a team like Brighton, but whether they have better chances in Europe than Frankfurt in the long term…
I think Götze will stay in Frankfurt, even if Eintracht misses the leap into European business.
