After several additions this winter, Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt has considered letting one or two players go. A decision now appears to have been made in the Hrvoje Smolcic case.
According to “Bild”, Eintracht Frankfurt will continue to rely on its defensive player Hrvoje Smolcic for the rest of the second half of the season.
There were certainly “considerations” about loaning out the 23-year-old this winter. Ultimately, the Hessians came to the decision that the Croatian is an important part of the squad and is needed as a back-up.
The left-footed player moved from Croatian first division club HNK Rijeka to the Eagles in the summer of 2022. As in his debut season, the 23-year-old will not progress beyond the status of a supplementary player at Eintracht Frankfurt this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt: Is there another new defender coming?
The defender has only made nine appearances in the Bundesliga and DFB Cup so far and has only been in the starting line-up twice. However, Hrvoje Smolcic demonstrated how important Hrvoje Smolcic is for Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller in the Conference League. He started in five of the possible six games in the group phase. His contract with the Bundesliga club is still long-term until 2027.
According to “Bild”, Frankfurt Eintracht will stick to their decision even if Aurèle Amenda makes a last-minute change. The central defender is under contract with Young Boys from Bern.
Most recently, the tabloid said that the 20-year-old will “highly likely” join Dino Toppmöller’s team in the winter and will cost 8.5 million euros. In Bern, the youngster still has a working paper until 2025.
