Behind Eintracht Frankfurt lies one of the biggest squad changes in recent years. No fewer than five regular players left the Bundesliga club in the summer, and a corresponding number of external newcomers were signed. A development can now be seen among the Hessians.
After the start of the season was very bumpy, as was almost planned, and Eintracht was only able to win one of the first six Bundesliga games with a completely renewed squad and a new head coach on the sidelines, the trend has now changed.
The Eagles got three wins and two draws from the last five league games, plus two clean sheets in the Conference League against Helsinki and a place in the cup round of 16.
The form curve of the 2023 Europa League winner is clearly pointing upwards, which is also gradually becoming apparent in the Bundesliga table: As seventh in the table, the Hessians are currently only one point and place behind the first place in the European Cup.
The big goal of qualifying for an international competition again at the end of the season remains firmly in the sights of those responsible, as sports director Markus Krösche recently emphasized.
New striker as a transfer target at Eintracht Frankfurt?
“I do believe that we can play a good role in the top third,” the SGE maker was quoted in “kicker”. At the same time, given the many arrivals and departures last summer, the 43-year-old tried to be humble and not let expectations get too high: “I will never rush forward and say: We absolutely have to play internationally.”
For the medium future, Krösche made clear his ambition at Eintracht to get more continuity back into the club: “There shouldn’t be such big upheavals in the future” and the team should only be changed “selectively”, added Krösche.
For the coming winter, this probably means that new alternatives for the storm center will be looked for.
