Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper: Manchester United is digging on Kevin Trapp

As of: 08/22/2022 8:09 p.m

Eintracht Frankfurt is threatened with the departure of goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on the home stretch of the transfer summer. The Hessians have not yet received an offer, but that could change soon. Coach Glasner expresses himself meaningfully.

The quiet weeks around Eintracht Frankfurt are finally over. The Europa League winner is currently not only lagging behind its own demands in terms of sport, and new problems could also arise in terms of personnel a few days before the end of the transfer. The reason: Goalkeeper, leader and figurehead Kevin Trapp appears to be at the top of Manchester United’s wish list. Eintracht is threatened with losing their number one.

There is no offer yet

According to information from hr-sport, the media-reported offer from England has not yet been received by the Hessians. As reported by Kicker and Sport1, this should happen on Tuesday. Accordingly, United have already officially asked for permission to negotiate with Trapp. Sports director Markus Krösche agreed. According to Kicker, Trapp wants to accept the four-year contract presented by the English.

In other words, a change is anything but impossible. Or, as coach Oliver Glasner put it on the sidelines of the Sport Bild Awards in Hamburg in the evening: “Anything is possible.”

Glasner draws parallels with Kostic

Glasner then emphasized that he assumed Trapp would remain. “I’m not worried,” said the Austrian. At the same time, he added: “I’ve never worried before – and then the player was gone, like Filip Kostic.” As is well known, he now plays for Juventus Turin.

So one thing is clear: Trapp, whose contract with Eintracht runs until the summer of 2024, is now facing a difficult decision. At United, who started the season with two defeats under new coach Erik Ten Hag, he could sign and collect another big contract with a world club at the age of 32. Instead of the Champions League with his heart club, he would have to play in the Europa League again this season.

For Trapp it’s about the World Cup

It is also questionable whether Trapp would like to fight for a place between the posts in the World Cup year. United’s regular goalkeeper David de Gea made a huge mistake in the 4-0 defeat against Brentford last weekend and would probably have to sit on the bench if Trapps were to change. The Spaniard will certainly not give up his place between the posts without a fight. In the Bundesliga and the Champions League, Trapp would also be much more present for national coach Hansi Flick.

Either way: just under a week before the end of the transfer period, the loss of Trapp would hit Eintracht hard. Back-up keeper Diant Ramaj has shown his worth, but at just 20 he’s more of a man for the future than for the present. Should Trapp really change, Eintracht would have to go full throttle again in the transfer final sprint and add to the goalkeeper position. Things could get hectic in Frankfurt over the next few days.
