Jakic is injured
Eintracht Frankfurt’s courted coach Oliver Glasner “firmly assumes” that he will also be on the bench for the Hessians in the coming season. “I never said anything else,” said the 48-year-old Austrian, who led Eintracht to victory in the Europa League last year, on Saturday after the 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on “Sky”. He feels “super comfortable” and spoke of a “great cooperation” with the team and the club.
Glasner’s contract runs until the summer of 2024, and his name was repeatedly mentioned when top clubs parted ways with their coaches – most recently at Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC – particularly because of the strong past season. “I still have a contract,” said Glasner, complaining that only he was being talked about, although other coaches were in a similar contract situation. He does not need to commit to unity in a matter “that is clear anyway”.
Glasner laments Eintracht Frankfurt’s dependence on Kolo Muani
According to Glasner, the Europa League winner is too dependent on top scorer Randal Kolo Muani (24). “As far as our offensive is concerned, it’s currently the case that almost only Kolo Muani scores the goals. That doesn’t make it any easier. In the fall it was spread over several shoulders,” said Glasner on Sunday on “Bild-TV”. In Jesper Lindström (23; injured) and Daichi Kamada (26; in bad shape for a few weeks), two goalscorers who were often successful in the autumn have now broken away.
In the 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach, France’s vice world champion Kolo Muani was again the goalscorer for the Hessians. No Bundesliga professional has increased his market value as much as the coveted attacker over the course of this season – from 16 million euros after his signing, it gradually went up to 65 million, and the trend is still rising.
Sané in the top 10: most valuable players in the Bundesliga
Despite seven Bundesliga games without a win, Glasner doesn’t just see the situation at Eintracht negatively. “If you look at Eintracht over the past few years, that’s the second best place. It’s not like we’re underperforming here. We are in the top range as far as placement in the Bundesliga is concerned. I do think that a lot of things are very good,” said the Austrian. However, the last few weeks have been “unsatisfactory”.
“Zum Kotzen”: Krösche served after Eintracht Frankfurt’s loss of points
In the search for the right words for Eintracht’s usury of chances, Markus Krösche ended up with a drastic formulation. “To puke maybe. I think that sums it up best,” said the Frankfurt sports director when asked a question. “It’s totally annoying, it’s totally unnecessary point losses. You can’t blame the boys for anything, it’s been like that the whole time,” said Krösche.

Including the two Champions League games against SSC Napoli, Frankfurt only won one competitive game from ten games. “You just have to make sure you win the games. It’s annoying when you’re six points short because you didn’t win the games,” said Krösche.
In the two months since mid-February, Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz 05 and VfL Wolfsburg have caught up with the Europa League winners. The renewed qualification for the international competition is in danger. “We just lack the last punch,” complained Krösche. Coach Glasner said: “It’s an issue of efficiency, we haven’t just had that since this matchday. That’s going through a bit. If we continue to perform like this, then the victories will come again.”
Next failure: Eintracht Frankfurt also has to do without Jakic
Eintracht Frankfurt has to compensate for the next failure on the defensive. All-rounder Kris Kristijan Jakic suffered a calf injury against Gladbach. The 25-year-old will “not be available in the near future,” said the Hessians on Sunday morning. Jakic was injured and replaced in the 17th minute on Saturday.
For Eintracht, the personnel situation on the defensive is getting thinner and thinner. Philipp Max (29) is also out for an indefinite period with a hamstring injury. Central defender Evan Ndicka (23), who complained of muscular problems, was also missing against Gladbach. Head coach Glasner praised Jakic for his flexibility on Saturday. “He was the man for everything. Hats off to that guy,” he said.
