Eintracht Frankfurt: Ekitiké wants to come, transfer poker with PSG

Players & club almost agree

Eintracht Frankfurt may be facing the most expensive commitment in the club’s history. As at first “L’Equipe“ reported, PSG attacker Hugo Ekitiké and the Hessians almost agree. According to the French sports daily, the 21-year-old and the Bundesliga club have become significantly closer. Ekitiké, who is contractually bound to Paris-Saint Germain until 2027, has agreed to accept a salary loss for a transfer.

It is said that everything now depends on an agreement between PSG and Eintracht, which is in pole position around Ekitiké. A loan deal with a purchase option is under discussion. Also the “Picture“wrote on Friday of widespread agreement between the center forward and the Frankfurt team. Ekitiké, who was already a hot topic on the Main last summer – in the wake of Randal Kolo Muani’s 95 million departure – wanted to go to the SGE. According to the paper, there is now poker between the clubs over the transfer fee that would have to be paid as part of a likely purchase obligation next summer.

Eintracht is therefore offering 15 to 18 million euros – apparently too little for the Parisians, who would imagine a significantly higher sum for the reservist. There can therefore be no question of an agreement. Ekitiké is left out of the French champions and has only played eight minutes this season. The PSG bosses now have to move towards sports director Markus Krösche and Co., but there is still great confidence in Frankfurt. The club has already strengthened itself in the winter with Donny van de Beek (26, Man United) and Sasa Kalajdzic (26, Wolverhampton Wanderers) – both of whom came on loan.

If Ekitiké follows, the Frenchman could slip to second place in the ranking of the most expensive SGE transfers in six months, although he would be the most expensive new signing at 15 to 18 million euros. The previous record purchase is Luka Jović, who once came from Benfica Lisbon for around 7 million euros and cost a further 15 million euros due to a resale share as part of his move to Real Madrid. The total fee that the SGE paid to Benfica for the Serb subsequently amounted to 22.34 million euros. The highest sum that the SGE paid in one go for a new player to date was 14 million euros for Djibril Sow (26, Sevilla) in 2019.

Transfer target Ekitiké was recently linked to VfL Wolfsburg – the “Wolves” are said to have made an offer – and Wolverhampton. Ekitiké was actually supposed to move to Frankfurt last deadline day. But time ran out back then and the striker, who was born in Reims, stayed in Paris. According to “Bild”, he can earn a maximum of 2.5 million to 3 million euros gross per year in the Bundesliga. Apparently not an obstacle for Ekitiké.
