Eintracht Frankfurt completes transfer coup with Hugo Ekitike

The transfer saga is officially over. Eintracht Frankfurt signed striker Hugo Ekitike from Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the winter transfer window.

After half a year’s delay, it all worked out: As expected, Eintracht Frankfurt struck again on “Deadline Day” and brought Hugo Ekitike from Paris Saint-Germain to the Main.

The 2022 Europa League winner officially announced this on Thursday evening. Accordingly, the 21-year-old will initially be loaned to Hessen for six months. In the summer, the SGE can then sign the attacker permanently thanks to a purchase option. According to the TV channel “Sky”, this should amount to 30 million euros.

The deal was preceded by long and stubborn negotiations.

“Of course we give him the time”

“Hugo is a young player who has already demonstrated his great potential. We were already convinced of him in the summer and did not discard the idea. We are happy that the transfer worked given our economic conditions. We give “Of course he has the time he needs to arrive,” said sports director Markus Krösche about the new addition.

The 21-year-old was already a hot replacement candidate for Randal Kolo Muani in the last transfer window, who moved from Eintracht to PSG in the summer. However, the deal failed in the last few meters.

Ekitike barely got any playing time in Paris

However, there wasn’t enough playing time at PSG. Ekitike has only made one short appearance so far this season. Most of the time he even missed the jump into PSG’s elite squad.

The French junior international is the second new addition to the center forward position in the winter transfer window for the Hessians after the Austrian and Bundesliga returnee Sasa Kalajdzic.
