Eintracht Frankfurt celebrates the Europa League title with thousands of fans, Europa League – hr – Regional

Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated winning the European Cup for the second time on Thursday. The cup winners landed in Frankfurt at 5.50 p.m. and then drove towards the city center in a motorcade. Even the intermittent heavy rain didn’t stop the party mood among the team and the waiting fans on the Römer.

First a long wait, then fireworks

The latter needed a lot of patience to finally be able to celebrate their team. The whole city felt like it was on its feet. The motorcade made slow progress, and time and again we had to take breaks, take photos and hand out signatures. The team only arrived at the Römerberg at 9:15 p.m.

A slightly diffuse speech by Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann and a thank you later by spokesman Axel Hellmann, keeper Kevin Trapp finally lifted the trophy into the Frankfurt evening sky. “We dedicate this triumph to Jürgen Grabowski, Eintracht Frankfurt’s greatest footballer,” said Hellmann. The Römerberg disappeared in the red fireworks fog.

“It’s for you”

Captain Sebastian Rode was the first to speak for the team. After the game against Mönchengladbach, he promised the supporters the trophy. “And here’s the thing. It’s for you,” said Rode with loud cheers. “I said to my assistant trainers, at some point we want to be there on the balcony,” said trainer Oliver Glasner. “But I I didn’t think it would work out in the first year.”

It got emotional when Danny da Costa grabbed the microphone. The right-back will leave Hessen in the summer after five years. “I didn’t think I’d win a title at all in my career. And now I’ve won two with you idiots.” The rest was boundless cheering.
