Eintracht Frankfurt traveled to Heidenheim as the clear favorite. The Hessians only returned home with one point, which, according to coach Toppmöller, was also due to the referee.

Eintracht Frankfurt not only lost two points in the 1-1 draw in Heidenheim – from the point of view of coach Dino Toppmöller, the Bundesliga club was also deprived of a regular goal. After the game he clearly criticized the referee.

In the 23rd minute, Elye Wahi seemed to give Frankfurt the lead. After a header assist from Robin Koch, the striker hit the back of the net into the net. But referee Christian Dingert had already blown the whistle; in his opinion, it was a foul by Arthur Theate on Heidenheim’s captain Patrick Mainka. The goal didn’t count.

Toppmöller was particularly bothered by the early whistle. On the Sky microphone, the Eintracht coach said: “What do we have the video referee for? Exactly for cases like this. Let the thing run and look at it afterwards if you think it was a foul.” He saw a foul in the scene “neither in the live setting nor in the video” and described the decision as “extremely bitter”.

Even Mainka admitted: “It’s not clear that it was a foul. You have to say that we were lucky.”

Toppmöller stated: “In the last few weeks it has actually been the case that one or two decisions have gone against us. I want that and we can no longer accept that. That is definitely unacceptable.” He also made it clear how much the game was influenced by the scene: “In the end it’s a completely different game when we take the lead.”
