Eintracht Frankfurt angry about Koch injury after being offside

The injury of his defense chief Robin Koch during a rescue attempt after a clear offside position angered coach Dino Toppmöller from Bundesliga soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Referee Christian Dingert and his team allowed play to continue in the relevant scene in the game at Bayer Leverkusen as a precaution, even though Leverkusen’s offside position was quite obvious. Koch was injured in the ultimately unnecessary rescue operation.

“It’s annoying for every coach when you have a clear offside position and a player has to defend 30 meters later. Because that way you run the risk of someone getting injured. And unfortunately that’s exactly what happened,” said Toppmöller after the 0 :3 at the league leader: “I can’t understand that. I can understand it if it’s close. But if it’s two or three meters, I have no understanding why no flag is raised.”

National defender Koch has problems with his heel and Achilles tendon. “It would be very bitter for us if he couldn’t play in the last game because of a scene like that,” said the coach.

As a rule, the referees should not interrupt the game and let the scene play out so that it can then be checked using video evidence if necessary.
