Even the official fan festival has already started
“They’re really up for it,” Frankfurt’s board spokesman Axel Hellmann announced last week. “That impresses me.” That Eintracht fans like to travel in large numbers through Europe and turned Barcelona and the venerable Camp Nou into a home game five weeks ago, is known in Hesse. The fact that a second – and possibly much larger – group of fans is now out and about in the same city gives the big final the right setting hours and days before kick-off. “It’s a rush of fans that Seville hasn’t seen before,” said Hellmann.
And to do justice to this XXL fan party, the city has put a lot of effort into it. Posters on every street corner advertise the final at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. The official UEFA party started on Tuesday morning in the Plaza de Espana, one of the most famous sights in town. Fan articles here, a few selfies in front of the final jerseys there, plus the best weather and over 30 degrees. The football god apparently means well with Eintracht and Rangers. And even the people of Seville, who have to live in a state of emergency for at least two days, seem eager to see Wednesday’s final.
The perfect city for this game
In the tapas bars, despite the lack of Spanish participation, there is already a lot of discussion and typing. A favorite is rarely found in the talks, but it is clear that this city is also a perfect match for this football game. Sevilla FC has won the Europa League, which has only existed since 2009 and is seen as a chore by many clubs, a total of six times and is the record holder. The affection of the city and the club, in whose stadium the final takes place, for this competition is as great as for Eintracht or Rangers. It’s a match.
And what are the Eintracht fans doing? The expected 50,000 Frankfurt supporters, who came and will come to Seville again in white and in the usual creative ways, were already present on Tuesday and could be recognized visually and acoustically without any problems. However, the large crowd will probably only arrive on the day of the match and then gather on the Prado de San Sebastian.
The hot party phase is yet to come
In the midday heat on Tuesday, on the square right next to the Plaza de Espana, the screen and the right temperature for the most important drinks (spoiler: beer) were still being worked on. The Eintracht fan festival will take place here on Wednesday, surrounded by a few trees that provide shade and fountains that will cool you down. Public viewing and some musical highlights included.
“It will be a unique meeting of the most vocal and enthusiastic fans in Europe,” said Eintracht board member Hellmann. The atmosphere around the final could not be better. And the hot phase of the party is yet to come.
