Eintracht Braunschweig in Bielefeld: With mentality to the first victory

Status: 08/26/2022 08:26 a.m

Last season, Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld and third division club Eintracht Braunschweig were separated by two leagues, now they meet at eye level as penultimate and last in the second Bundesliga. Both are still without a win.

While Bundesliga relegated Bielefeld has already pulled the rip cord and hired Daniel Scherning from VfL Osnabrück to succeed Uli Forte, those responsible in Braunschweig are still relaxed about the coaching question. “It doesn’t make sense to think about it,” BTSV sports director Peter Vollmann said last week before the game against Düsseldorf (2-2) – the draw combined with a playful increase in performance should have confirmed his view.

However, Vollmann sees some catching up to do in the squad: “I think we’ll get another player,” he announced. In the “Lions” the shoe pinches, especially in the central defense.

Draw against Dusseldorf provides confidence

Braunschweig coach Michael Schiele is clear that the loser of the duel tonight (6.30 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter) could lose touch with the saving bank early in the season and “run after the music”. However, the 44-year-old was confident – if his Eintracht against Düsseldorf created numerous chances to score, a win would have been possible. “Then we’ll try again in Bielefeld,” said Schiele.

Ujah: “We have to get over the mentality”

Anthony Ujah was also satisfied: “I’m very, very proud of the team. We took a small step in the right direction and finally eliminated the zero goals and points,” the attacker told the “Braunschweiger Zeitung” and added: “Now we can work with a little more peace.”

The 31-year-old tries to support his team-mates primarily with his experience and positive energy. “I always want to push. We do have quality in our team, but above all we have to come through our mentality.” It helps that the “lions” are a conspiratorial bunch, according to Ujah: “There is a great atmosphere, we have a lot of fun. Even in the phase when it was more difficult, the mood was right.” It should get even better when it finally works out with the first win of the season.

Possible lineups:

Bielefeld: Fraisl – Klünter, Hüsing, Andrade, Oczipka – Vasiliadis, Lepinjica – Hack, Okugawa – Lasme, Serra
Brunswick: Fejzic – Behrendt, Nikolaou, Strompf – Marx, Krauße, Donkor – Henning, Pherai – Ujah, Ihorst
