Eintracht Braunschweig went into the winter break of the 2nd Bundesliga with a one-point lead over the relegation zone. That should also be used by the Lower Saxony to further stabilize the squad with a view to staying up in the league through possible improvements. One player who, according to Transfermarkt information, has come into focus with the yellow-blues is defensive talent Linus Gechter from Hertha BSC.

The 18-year-old native, who was recently awarded the silver Fritz Walter medal for 2021 in the 2004 vintage and extended his contract on the Spree in March to 2025, celebrated his Bundesliga debut at Hertha last season and played a total of 13 league games and the relegation first leg against HSV. In the current season, however, the 1.90 meter tall left foot is still waiting for his first appearance under Sandro Schwarz after he has been struggling with illnesses several times since August. It was only in mid-October that Gechter was back on the field for the second time in the Regionalliga Nordost and was able to gain match practice.

The central defender could now get more of the latter from Eintracht from Braunschweig. There is a rental shop in the room in winter, according to TM information, Gechter was already there in Lower Saxony to get an idea of the club. However, talks about a possible transfer have not yet been finalized. Coach Michael Schiele confirmed in the “Brunswick newspaper“.
“Of course, the injuries hit us hard, especially at our central defenders. I haven’t experienced anything like this before either. It is therefore our turn to keep our eyes open in this area. We need more breadth in our squad to be able to survive such a bottleneck in an emergency,” said the 44-year-old.
Eintracht Braunschweig coach Schiele: “Do something in 1 or 2 positions”
The second most valuable German professional born in 2004 after national player Youssoufa Moukoko could possibly fill the gap at the Lower Saxony. Schiele, who assumes that “one or the other player who hasn’t played that much lately could also leave the club”, said “that we will do something in one or two positions – more will be difficult. Of course it’s about the defence, about a six or eight and we have to consider how resilient our strikers are. Luc Ihorst is currently injured, Anthony Ujah is not getting any younger either.”
The BTSV had invested around 500,000 euros in the signings of de Medina and Ihorst in the summer and signed another six players free of charge (overview). A total of 13 players left the Lower Saxony after promotion, Schiele currently has one of the smallest squads in the league with a squad of 26 professionals.
