Eintracht back in Frankfurt after winning the European Cup

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Eintracht Frankfurt has returned to its hometown after triumphing in the Europa League final against Glasgow Rangers in Seville.

The machine with head coach Oliver Glasner and his players landed in Frankfurt on Thursday on time. The Bundesliga club had won against Rangers 5-4 on penalties the day before. It is the first international title win in 42 years.

After that, the Eintracht team should drive in a motorcade with convertibles to the city hall, about ten kilometers away, where they were expected by around 100,000 supporters on and around the Römerberg, some of them for hours in the summer heat. First of all, a ceremony in the Kaisersaal with the entry in the Golden Book was part of the official programme. Only then was the silver European Cup trophy presented on the town hall balcony.

In the streets around the Römerberg and in other parts of the city due to the Autocorso, there were significant traffic delays with traffic jams. The public transport stations in the area were closed and multi-storey car parks were closed. Outdoor gastronomy was prohibited, wedding dates in the town hall were canceled beforehand.
