King’s Day 2022 in Eindhoven was visited by 135,000 people. Ruud Bakker has made this known upon request. The chair of the Eindhoven department of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland is involved in the organization of the event, which could be celebrated en masse for the first time since the corona crisis.
And massive it was. From the beginning of the afternoon, the Eindhoven city center functioned as a magnet for everyone who finally wanted to go wild.
‘Positive difference’
Bakker: “Really a positive difference compared to 2019. Then it was rainy and we counted more than 110,000 people. Now the sun was also shining and you could notice that people were ready for it this Wednesday. And from the start everything was the crowds were pleasant and friendly, with Royal Dutch Eindhoven drawing the most people on Stadhuisplein. But the stages on Wilhelminaplein and Vestdijk, among others, were also popular. The atmosphere was actually very good everywhere.”
“From about nine o’clock in the evening you saw the first visitors go home. But that also went in peace. So far and as far as is known there have been few unpleasant incidents. We are very satisfied”, Bakker looks back.
It was also all orange in Breda. There, 538 King’s Day as an event already attracted 40,000 partygoers. But performances on various other stages in the city also attracted many old-fashioned visitors. Just like in Eindhoven, no striking incidents were reported in Breda and the crowds decreased during the evening.
