Eindhoven flooded by fans of the Champions League women’s final

Eindhoven will be flooded with football fans on Saturday afternoon for the Women’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg. The center of the city mainly turns blue-red because of the Spanish supporters who have flocked to the match.

On the Wilhelminaplein, where the German fans gather, the light green of the German fans dominates, albeit a little more modestly. But the party atmosphere is no less. Under a lovely sun, the supporters sing, dance and drink and the atmosphere is great. Both fan zones are convinced that their club will win the final.

Attendance record
The match starts at four o’clock. All 34,100 seats in the Philips Stadium are sold out. That is the first time since the competition was renamed the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2009.

The previous spectator record for a women’s football match in the Netherlands was in June when 33,742 visitors watched the Eredivisie game between Ajax and Feyenoord.

Eindhoven is sailing well with winning the final. All hotels in the city and surroundings were fully booked weeks in advance.
