Eilish McColgan, the long-distance runner representing Great Britain, has spoken openly about the appearance pressure and the comments she has received on social media about her body.

In May, McColgan, 31, posted messages she had received on her Instagram account. In the comments, people had thought McColgan was too skinny.

Now he gave an interview to the Norwegian NRK in connection with the World Championships in Eugene.

– I am an adult woman and quite strong-willed. I was quite insecure about my body when I was 14, because I didn’t have the same breasts and bum as others. I was a board. “It took me a long time to be happy with my body,” McClogan said for NRK.

– I remember how insecure I was when people commented on how thin I was or how tall I was, but this is just my body.

The runner born in Scotland reminds us that there are different bodies, sizes and shapes among athletes.

– Everyone is different. And they are healthy. They compete at the highest possible level. It is important for me to talk to younger people so that they understand that they can become an athlete if they look like me.

McClogan would like less hateful comments.

– We should not accept it. There is no reason for people to be negative.

Norwegian 400m hurdler Amalie Read considers McClogan a role model for both girls and boys.

– It is very unfortunate and pointless to write comments. I don’t know what they are getting at with it. In our sport, we focus a lot on the body.

McClogan ran tenth in the women’s 10,000 meters at the World Championships in Eugene on Saturday. In his career, he has won the 5,000-meter EC silver in Berlin in 2018.
