The men of Sudosa-Desto failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the cup. Sliedrecht Sport 2 was too strong for Henk Gootjes’ team with a score of 3-1.
After a mediocre start in which the people of Assen had great difficulty scoring and properly processing the serve from the guests from Sliedrecht, the battle slowly became more balanced.
Sliedrecht Sport won the opening set 25-21 and seemed to be on its way to a 2-0 lead at 22-17. An impossible save from diagonal Jorryt Sybrandy, who managed to save the ball far outside the field with an overhead kick, was the starting signal for the home team to attack more fiercely.
Sudosa-Desto came back to 24-24, after which it still went wrong with 26-24. The conviction from the end of the second set was continued by the home team in the third set. Sybrandy provided a big lead with his serve: 14-5.
Lead clumsily lost
Gootjes saw his team win the third set easily (25-13). Everything then pointed to a fifth and decisive set. Sudosa-Desto always had a lead of three or four points, but things still went wrong at the end due to their own mistakes. A 23-19 lead was clumsily squandered, after which Sliedrecht Sport still took the win 28-26.
