Eight Hilversum restaurants were caught last week after meal deliverers were cheated. It turned out that not only too young meal deliverers were working, but also delivery drivers without a license. This is reported by the police and the municipality after a check.
Nine restaurants were scrutinized by the municipality, the police and the labor inspectorate, because there were suspicions that something was wrong.
This turned out to be the case at eight restaurants. The auditors found that the various restaurants employed meal deliverymen under the age of 16. Other deliverers did not have a work permit or even a residence permit, among other things. It is still being investigated whether the restaurants have underpaid their meal deliverers.
Rules not always followed
The catering businesses were scrutinized because many more meal delivery businesses have been added in recent years without the rules being always observed. “The purpose of the inspection was to gain a better insight into the extent of abuses in the delivery business in Hilversum,” according to the municipality. It is not known exactly which restaurants were visited.
The offending restaurants have not yet been punished for their violations. The municipality, the police and the labor inspectorate say they will ‘post their findings at a later date’. The next steps will be determined later.
