The men’s final tournament in the Handball European League is to take place at a neutral location in the future. This was confirmed by Martin Hausleitner, Secretary General of the European Handball Federation (EHF), of the “Handball Week”. The aim of the reform is to draw more international attention to the tournament.
This reform has already taken place for women: next weekend Borussia Dortmund, Thüringer HC and the Danish clubs Ikast Handbold and Nykobing Falster Handbold will meet in Graz in the Final Four.
Hausleitner explained that it was “a logical step to hold the finals on neutral ground and to encourage the clubs to come there. This is how internationalization can succeed.”
The men’s final tournament will take place this year on May 27th and 28th in Flensburg. There the Füchse Berlin, Frisch Auf Göppingen, BM Granollers from Spain and Montpellier HB from France meet. The SG Flensburg-Handewitt failed in the quarter-finals and thus missed out on participating as hosts.
The Final Four of the Champions League has been held in Cologne every year since 2010.
