Egypt narrowly wins first leg in Africa’s World Cup qualifiers against Senegal – World Cup 2022 in Qatar – Soccer

Africa are entitled to five of the 32 places at the World Cup finals. The five matches of the last qualifying round will determine which five teams will take part in Qatar 2022 in a two-leg game. In contrast to UEFA competitions, the away goals rule applies.

Egypt 1-0 Senegal (1-0)

Egypt won the first leg in a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final. Senegal’s Saliou Ciss scored the only goal of the night in Cairo – however, it was an own goal that gave Egypt victory (4′).

Ghana 0-0 Nigeria

No goals were scored in Kumasi. Ghana last qualified in 2014 and Nigeria in 2018.

Cameroon 0-1 Algeria (0-1)

Islam Slimani scored the decisive goal in the 40th minute for Algeria, who were eliminated as the defending African Cup of Nations champions in the group stage.

DR Congo 1-1 Morocco (1-0)

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa put Congo ahead in Kinshasa after 12 minutes. Tarik Tissoudali equalized for Morocco in the 76th minute. Kongo’s Ngonda Muzinga saw the yellow-red card shortly before the end.

Mali 0-1 Tunisia (0-1)

Moussa Sissako scored an own goal in Bamako after a misunderstanding with the goalkeeper in the 36th minute, and in the 40th minute he was sent off with a red card after an emergency brake.
