Egmond is waiting anxiously to see whether extremely high sea water will soon flow into the village

Storm Pia will probably cause seawater to flow into Egmond aan Zee. This is reported by the Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Board. They have already taken several measures during the day.

Measures have also been taken in other places in the province, for example the bank (a dike hole) in Den Oever has been closed and dike monitoring has been set up. A preliminary inspection shows that the dikes are in good condition and that there is no danger. The water is so high that the waves will probably crash over the beach entrance. A beach entrance may have wave overtopping. The Water Board reports that the dune is high enough and safe.

Protect beach pavilions

Earlier today, measures were also taken: a high mountain of sand and concrete slabs were laid down to protect the Bad Egmond beach pavilion against the rising water. In addition, all loose items have been secured at the Nautilus pavilion, from wind screens to flags.

New checks will be carried out at 10:30 PM.
