Egmond beach dangerous after storm: municipality places warning signs

It looks like Boxing Day will be a great day for a walk on the beach, but due to storm Pia, that is certainly not an option on Egmond beach. A spokesperson for the municipality has announced that it will not be safe to go to the beach in the coming days at least.

The municipality will place signs during the course of today to warn about the unstable beach. The high water and strong winds have deposited a lot of sand and created high cliffs along the sea.

The water was standing tonight so high that it was still exciting to see whether the sea water would flow into the village. The municipality and the water board had taken various measures, including laying down beach walls to stop the water. That turned out to be successful: the wall was just able to hold back the water.

Storm Pia causes damage

Storm Pia was not a very heavy storm in terms of intensity, but did cause a lot of damage due to the wind direction and high water. According to NH reporter Anne Klijnstra, the picnic tables floated past when she was on the beach last night.
