Egg, egg, egg! This season, the famous egg house in the Spreepark is scheduled to open again. The new landlady previously had the cult restaurant Baldon in Wedding.
Even Prussia’s poet prince Theodor Fontane (1819-1898) set a literary monument to the excursion restaurant as a “beauty of the Spree” in his novel “Der Stechlin”. The time after reunification was all the sadder. Closed in 1990, decay, vandalism. Since 2019, the state of Berlin has had BIM renovated by its company.
Initially, the costs for the restoration and the new construction of the farm building were estimated at 13.1 million euros. But there are already overruns of around 2.56 million. A parliamentary inquiry by the FDP shows that the work of carpenters, metalworkers, parquet layers and elevator professionals in particular has become more expensive.
The excursion restaurant on the banks of the Spree will also have its own jetty for steamers and canoes. Preparatory work is currently underway: divers examine the shore area from a pontoon for explosive ordnance. A shallow water zone will be created over a length of 100 meters as a new habitat for plants and animals.
The company “Eierhäuschen Essen+Trinken GmbH” has signed on as the leaseholder, and Jessica-Joyce Sidon (34) has been appointed as the managing director. The restaurateur became known as a former part owner of the Baldon in Wedding’s Lobe Block (Böttgerstraße) near the climbing hall.
Under the roof of the brick building there will be four artist apartments, a dance hall on the ground floor and a total of 540 seats – half of them in the beer garden. System catering was undesirable, regional dishes should be offered.
The guests should come by shuttle from the S-Bahn or by bike. The Dammweg will be blocked for cars with a barrier – planned exception: closed companies.
