An Efteling visitor climbed onto Tom Thumb’s giant in the Fairytale Forest. The images were spread on social media this weekend. Efteling is not happy with the action.
The visitor did not let the pond stop him. The video shows that the boy first has his picture taken with the four-meter-long giant. He cheerfully gives a thumbs up.
“What an ugly photo. Sit on his arm!”, his buddies shout. The boy then climbs onto the fairy-tale character from 1998. He then runs away through the bushes.
‘Inappropriate’
“This was not seen on the day itself. It is not nice what he is doing,” says Efteling spokesperson Steven van Gils, who also saw the images via the internet. “It is dangerous because he does not take the usual route. In addition, it can cause damage to the statue of the giant. As far as we have seen, fortunately there is no damage.”
Efteling will not take any measures against the rowdy boy. “The act is too small to track anyone down now.” If the climber had been caught, things might have been different. “You can then kick someone out of the park. That doesn’t have to happen immediately, but it really depends on the conversation that follows.”
There are negative reactions to the video on the internet. “I would kick them out of the park immediately,” someone wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The right example for the children who walk there,” reads another sarcastic response.
Money from the fountain
It is not the first time that an Efteling visitor goes further than intended. Last summer a man climbed into the Wishing Well, a fountain near the Gondeletta boats. He appears to be grabbing one or more coins with his right hand, as video footage showed.
According to Efteling, there is little that can be done about this kind of ‘rowliness’. “You can put fences everywhere, but that is also unpleasant. We also hope that visitors will speak to each other.”
