Effzeh icon hopes for initial spark in the derby

Former soccer world champion Pierre Littbarski wants 1. FC Cologne to win in the Rhenish derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“Hopefully they can get a three-pointer in the derby against Gladbach,” he told “SID” at a Suzuki PR meeting in Bensheim. “And then everyone will be as dynamic and positive as the coach.”

Steffen Baumgart’s team, currently bottom of the Bundesliga with one point, welcomes Gladbach on Sunday (3:30 p.m.). There are “no tips” for Cologne’s “extremely difficult situation”; the team has to score, said Littbarski.

According to the club icon, FC are creating opportunities and “just have to become more accurate up front.”

Littbarski, who played 406 times in the Bundesliga for Cologne, made it clear regarding the club’s overall situation: “Many people are now saying that the team is not good enough. I think they have the quality.”
