Effenberg would be “pissed” at Nagelsmann’s rotation

After FC Bayern’s draw against VfB Stuttgart, Julian Nagelsmann’s rotation was the focus of criticism. The former Munich Stefan Effenberg now went hard with the coach to court.

Nagelsmann made a total of six changes in the starting XI for the duel against VfB Stuttgart. Far too much rotation for Effenberg.

“As a player, I would have a problem with the coach rotating like that – that’s too much for me,” criticized the 54-year-old in his “sports1“column and went on to say: “Personally, I would have done it differently than Nagelsmann, and now I wouldn’t have started in the same style with six new people, because in the end the result always takes precedence over everything.”

When Effenberg was rested in some games during his playing days, he was “really pissed off”. “As an active player, you ask yourself: Why? What did I do wrong? You always have the right to play,” says the TV expert.

But his coach at the time, Ottmar Hitzfeld, gave him a reason that Effenberg accepted. Therefore, the ex-national player advises the Bayern coach: “I think Nagelsmann still has to learn to explain that to the top stars – that’s his biggest challenge at Bayern, especially in terms of management style.”

Nagelsmann must be “unique when you have 20 national players in the squad” in terms of social skills.

Salihamidzic: Nagelsmann has to “find his style”

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic protected Nagelsmann on Sunday in the “Sport1 double pass”, but emphasized that the coach still has to “find his style” when dealing with all the top stars.

“He’s never had a squad like that before,” said the 45-year-old. It takes “a good hand and a sure instinct, it’s a learning process for him too”. The many changes after the win against Inter Milan in the Champions League had been agreed in advance, said Salihamidzic.
