FC Bayern has had a record winter transfer period, and for good reason. Hamann’s harsh and personal criticism of Tuchel has crossed a line.
FC Bayern has had a very unusual winter transfer window. With Sacha Boey, who is coming from Galatasaray for 30 million euros (plus bonuses), Bryan Zaragoza, who is moving from FC Granada for 17 million (plus bonuses), and Eric Dier, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, the Munich team now have three new signings. And we spent more money than ever before in winter.
All three are not perspective players, but can help immediately. Bayern did well, even under the pressure of having to do something due to numerous injuries. They couldn’t have entered the crucial phase of the season with such a thin squad. That would have been irresponsible because it would have put the season’s goals in acute danger.
But the boys now have to perform straight away. Basically, all three fit well with FC Bayern. With Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman now out for weeks, it made perfect sense to bring forward the transfer from Zaragoza that was actually agreed for the summer. Bayern can give three crosses that Granada played along.
Zaragoza is exactly the player Bayern needs
Zaragoza can be used flexibly on the left and right wing and is an intelligent boy. He may have to get used to the Bundesliga a bit. But with a little bit of effort he will definitely succeed. Especially against opponents who focus on defense, he is exactly the player Bayern needs up front: someone who always looks for one-on-one situations, starts dribbling – and can therefore make the difference.
Boey is also a very good transfer. A player with great potential who will take the next step for the record champions and is an asset. I also noticed him very positively in Bayern’s duels with Galatasaray in the Champions League. He has great quality going forward, is still young and can still improve when moving backwards.
Dier has also played at the highest level and can help the team with his experience.
There is a different pressure at Bayern
But all three now have to quickly understand what it means to play for Bayern Munich. We’re no longer talking about Granada, Gala or Tottenham. There are different demands and different pressures here, which you will immediately feel.
On the other hand, Bayern is also increasing the pressure on everyone else with the new additions. This will be good for competition. Nobody should be sure of their position – except perhaps Manuel Neuer, Harry Kane and Leroy Sané. That’s exactly what you need to keep the sharpness. Especially before the crucial phase of the season, which begins with the top game in Leverkusen and the round of 16 of the Champions League.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern have scored 47 points, seven points more than last season after 19 matchdays and have moved within two points of league leaders Leverkusen.
With Gladbach a dangerous opponent is coming to Munich on Saturday. In Leverkusen they defended very well recently and fought to a 0-0 draw. Bavaria should be warned. Two hearts are already beating in my chest at the duel between my two former clubs. The better team should win, but the better team was actually Leverkusen against Gladbach.
