Effenberg believes in a “genius move”

Liverpool FC still have a few months left with Jürgen Klopp. Stefan Effenberg believes the Reds have received a “psychological kick”.

Ex-national player Stefan Effenberg sees the early announcement of Jürgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool as strategically clever. “I think it was a brilliant move,” said the 55-year-old in the Sport1 program “Doppelpass” on Sunday.

“By making this announcement, he has gotten the team even more on his side,” said Effenberg and spoke of a “psychological kick: I believe that they will win one or two titles because of it.”

Klopp announced on Friday that he would resign as Liverpool coach after this season. His contract with the Reds actually ran until mid-2026. The German star coach justified this decision by saying that he was running out of energy. “This job is definitely not healthy if you go full throttle for nine years,” said Effenberg. “That’s why I can absolutely understand the decision.”
