Playing games with friends or family, with a drink and a snack: for game lover Edwin Niemans there is nothing more beautiful. That led to the creation of Game and Morewhich has grown into a game mecca of more than 1,400 square meters, where you can buy and play games.
Spel en Meer arose in November 2015 from Edwin’s passion for games. “I’ve been playing games for as long as I can remember,” he says. “From party games to very strategic ones.”
From small shop…
“We started in the Dorpsstraat, in a building of 95 square meters”, Edwin recalls. “In 2017 we moved to a building that was more than twice as large, a little further down the Dorpsstraat. That place also gradually became too small. Due to the ever-expanding range and the growing need for leeway.”
At Game and More you can not only buy games, but you can also try them out. “If you buy a gift voucher of at least ten euros, you can try out games undisturbed for a few hours. You do not have to spend the gift voucher at that time. In addition, we regularly organize tournaments. People from all over Europe come here for that.”
… to game mecca
At the beginning of 2022, the store therefore moved to the Stadshart. The new building is a staggering 1,400 square meters. In addition to all kinds of games, toys and merchandise, there is a large play arena. You will also find a wide range of painting, drawing and craft supplies.
Now that there are no more corona rules, Edwin hopes that many game lovers will welcome the old-fashioned way again. “In corona time, that was not possible, or with much fewer people. That was close to my heart, because meeting new people and having a pleasant afternoon or evening together, with a drink and snack, remains the best.”

Huge market
The games market is huge. “When we started, maybe 350 games came out every year. Now that is ten times as much, almost a third of which consists of extensions. Not every game ends up in the shop here. We try to get the currants out of the porridge. That requires us to play many new games ourselves. That is not only great fun, but also necessary to be able to give good advice and explanations. We also regularly receive demonstrations from suppliers. Because as much as we would like to, unfortunately we don’t have the time to play every new game ourselves.”
Edwin sees a number of trends in the game world. “Games where you don’t have to wait for someone else’s turn are becoming more and more popular. Collaboration games and party games are also in, especially now that people are allowed to get together again. And while these concepts are not new in themselves, there have been a lot of surprising games in these genres lately.”
Tips from Edwin
An example of such a surprisingly fun game according to Edwin is unlock† “Then you have to work together to get out of an escape room. It takes teamwork and attentiveness. A very challenging game.”
Also a tip: Hint† “A real party game. You must make others guess the word that is on your card. You can do that in any number of ways, as long as you don’t say that word. A game that provides a lot of fun.”
“Another fun party game is Exploding Kittens† A hilarious game with a very original drawing. As soon as you take a card with an exploding cat on it, you’re done, but you can use all kinds of tricks and tactics to prevent that.”
