Education records 430 cases of violence against students in the first quarter of the 22-23 academic year

  • 262 situations have occurred in the school environment and 134 in the family, according to data from the specialized unit of the ‘conselleria’

He harassment and violence against children and adolescents is far from eliminated. In the first quarter of this academic year 22-23, the Support Unit for Students in Situations of Violence (Usav) of the Department of Education has tried 430 cases, the majority (167) were bullying. Of the total, 262 have occurred in the related to school and 134 in the familiar. In addition, the service has received an average of 588 daily calls.

The Usav, a specialized service made up of lawyers, psychologists and educators, has stressed that in three years “inquiries have skyrocketed due to situations of violence against children and adolescents”.

According to the data, there have been a total of 123 cases of mistreatment children and adolescents, 60 as victims of sexist violence34 of mental health problems –such as suicide attempts, completed suicides or violence derived from a mental disorder–.

Four cases related to situations of racismand another 42 that are not included in the rest of the categories since, for example, it would be violence exercised for the purpose of robbery.

Regarding the areas in which this violence occurs, the majority –262 cases– are in the related to school; 134 in the family; 11 in the ‘other’ category; five in the pair; another five in the digital field; five also at the community level; five in the known domain; and three at the institutional level.

Among the cases dealt with, there is none for vicarious violence — the violence exercised towards the children by the abusive father as an instrument of harming the mother–; and neither obstetric violence nor workplace violence.

Regarding the gender of the victim, of the total of 430 cases, in 252 the victims are womencompared to 152 men, 17 of both genders -that is, whoever suffers violence includes more than one gender–, two of non-binary gender and another seven cases in which the gender of the victim has not been reported .

Of the total number of cases treated, 340 are being monitored –a case in which everything is being monitored and actions have already been taken–; 39 have been resolved –that is, the appropriate actions have been carried out to eradicate violence–; 26 are in process –the center or students are being advised–; and 25 are open –the case has entered but has not yet been assigned to any professional–.
