The instruction includes the 27 centers that last year were affected by rulings of the TSJC
This September 5, the first day of going back to school, there will be no educational center in Catalonia that applies the 25% of Spanish in the classrooms. This has been highlighted by the ‘conseller’ of Education, Josep González-Cambray, this Thursday at the press conference to present the 2022-23 academic year: “Starting next week, no classroom in this country will apply percentages, no classroom will apply 25% of Spanish.” And this includes the 27 centers that during the past year applied the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia in one of their classrooms.
The Department of Education sent a communication to all school addresses on Wednesday and this Thursday it has been transferred to the TSJC. This same week, the court already rejected the request of the association for bilingualism AEB to apply precautionary measures in all schools so that the course began with “at least one subject in Spanish.”

The Secretary General for Education, Patrícia Gomà, has also underlined that “the new regulatory framework promoted by the Government and the Parliament” makes the application of percentages “incompatible”. And she has recalled that the recent resolution of the TSJC has also evidenced that “impossibility”.
After lamenting that last year was “marked by judicial interference”, Cambray has valued the decree of the Catalan approved in Catalonia, and has described it as a “country success”. “This is what happens when you work in the same direction at the service of the student”, he has riveted. The ‘conseller’ has pointed out that this non-application of language percentages is not “enough” and has advanced that he wants to deploy measures to increase the use of Catalan in schools. “We get down to work to increase the use of Catalan in schools and that language projects are applied in the classroom,” he remarked.
