Berget Lewis, Candy Dulfer and Edsilia Rombley have faced incredible criticism for their decision not to expel Glennis Grace from the Ladies of Soul following her misconduct at the Jumbo. Even their own followers were quite outraged about it. There was even so much criticism that they decided to turn off their Instagram comments.

Girlfriend Glennis

Although the criticism really comes from all sides, and John van den Heuvel has also advised the ladies to put Glennis aside for a year, Edsilia Rombley does not bow to that. She is sticking to the intention to be in the Ziggo Dome in September with the four of us. “We said: ‘We hope she can be there’”, she says in Jinek.

Edsilia tells in the talk show that she does not want to drop Glennis. “The bad thing is that it is really difficult and annoying for us. And folks, it’s not just coworker. It’s also a friend, of course.”

‘What now?!’

It was very scary for the ladies, according to Edsilia. “In the ten years we’ve been working together and doing the Ladies of Soul concerts, we’ve never experienced this and not even close, so we’re kind of like, now what?! We also consciously said very little about it, because it turns out: whatever you say, it’s not good.”

According to Edsilia, Glennis has not told them much either. “So we don’t really know the whole story. We’ve only seen her once in these six weeks. People also think: friends, you see each other every day! We only spoke to her once. We only spoke to her two weeks after the incident.”

foregone conclusion

Is it a foregone conclusion that Glennis will return to performing with the Ladies of Soul in September? “Look, we’ve been working towards this show for a long time and we just want to entertain people, make them happy. We have great shows and great performances.”

“We’re like, this case is ongoing, we can’t do anything in this situation for a while, but we can still continue making this awesome show that we’ve had to postpone twice already. We just find this very difficult. It’s just really hard because you don’t know exactly what happened. We hear a lot.”

against violence

Edsilia is especially curious about the real story. “Part of us don’t know what happened. She indicates that she is not allowed to talk about the case, because everything she says can be misinterpreted. We also hope that more will come out. I’m also curious how long this case will last. When is it allowed to go outside what happened?”

She hopes for clarity soon. “Because maybe it’s not that bad later. That’s why we say: ‘We hope’, because in the end it’s a girlfriend and you can’t just drop her after one incident. They don’t even know what happened and we only hear stories.”

Slories of soul

All criticism affects Edsilia quite a lot. “I also find it very difficult to sit here, because everything you say is almost not good these days. We just want to bring love to the stage, make music and connect people. (…) We are against violence in any case. I don’t want that either, but what happened? So we don’t know.”

As long as the Ladies of Soul continue with Glennis, Edsilia’s statement against violence won’t make much of an impression columnist Jan Dijkgraaf. He thinks it’s fine that the ladies stand in the breach for Glennis. “But don’t call yourself Ladies, but Sloeries of Soul.”
