WhatsApp always brings minor and major updates with new features. Messenger is now working in the background on a function that other services have had for a long time and that users have wanted for many years: edit WhatsApp messages after they’ve already been sent.
The messenger service WhatsApp is the most used of all – both in Germany and worldwide. The app has been at the top of Messenger since 2014. Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Co. are comparatively far behind. Compared to some competitors, however, one practical function could not be used, namely editing WhatsApp messages after they have already been sent.
WhatsApp is working on a message editing feature
Many who use an instant messenger would certainly like to edit a message that has already been sent. There can be many reasons for this: you saw a spelling mistake or you pressed send too early or by mistake. WhatsApp was therefore already working on a corresponding function five years ago in order to be able to correct any errors afterwards. However, there was never a rollout. Up to now, you have to completely delete and rewrite messages if you want to change them.
WABetaInfo has now found indications that the messenger service belonging to Meta is again working on a corresponding functionality.
What exactly does the function entail?
The site, which is known for reliable information about WhatsApp, provides relevant information in a current Android test version.
The screenshot shows an “Edit” option in addition to the already known “Info” and “Copy” functions. To do this, users only have to mark the corresponding message and the menu will appear. However, the information does not reveal whether the original message can then be seen in the log and whether the content is marked accordingly in order to avoid confusion.
It is still unclear when we can expect a function to edit WhatsApp messages. But if you want to take a look at the planned feature, you can register as a WhatsApp beta tester.
