The Drenthe nominees for the Edison pop prizes have not won any prizes. There was a chance to win a Drenthe prize in the Newcomer and Rock categories.
Zoë Tauran from Roden was nominated in the first category, for newcomers. She has had a successful year with three hits. The jury called her voice and music in the nomination: ‘Powerful, soulful and where necessary with emotion’. Those words of praise did not yield an award yet. The band Goldband took off with the Edison.
The rock band Orange Skyline has an important Drenthe contribution with the Zuidlaren brothers Van der Wielen. Their album sounds ‘un-Dutch good, a strong record with good songs’, the jury wrote in the nomination. Still, the band didn’t get Edison. In the Rock category it went to Di-rect.
The Edison, also known as the Dutch Grammy, is the oldest and one of the most prestigious music awards in the Netherlands. Like every year, the award consists of a bronze statuette by sculptor Pieter d’Hont.
