Eddy Zoëy reacts icily to Sophie: bizarre TV moment in Boulevard

Eddy Zoëy causes astonishment with his icy response to Sophie Hilbrand. Why does he react so scary when she talks about the work culture at their joint former employer BNN?

It is undeniable that Sophie Hilbrand has had a turbulent week. She has come under heavy criticism for crying foul over her shady former co-host Khalid Kasem, who is apparently known to employees as “honey” and “sweetie.” A reporter from RTL Boulevard was waiting for her after her Friday show.

“Jesus, huh!”

Does Sophie understand the criticism? “It is very difficult because I still find it complicated. It was no different. It just hit me the whole time that day. It is a tough article that has been published and that needs to be investigated, but that it has such an effect… It is a very big consequence of something that is suddenly on the table, so to speak. That you think: Jesus, huh.”

This week her talk show discussed the misconduct at the NPO in detail. During the Friday show, Sophie casually noted that she would be better off not talking about her years at the former youth broadcaster BNN.

Nice woman

What did Sophie mean by that? “No, yes, just that it’s always… Just… An atmosphere of ehhh… Yes, I don’t know. ‘Nice woman’, this, or how you talk about it. Which is actually no longer the intention. Yes, I just have to think a bit about that culture, yes.”

Presenter Daan Nieber then asks colleague Eddy Zoëy, at the RTL Boulevard desk: “’That culture.’ You also worked at BNN. What could she possibly mean by that?”

Eddy reacts icily

Eddy then reacts really strangely – as if a second personality of his suddenly answers. He answers in a very measured, angry and strict manner: “I have never been called a hot chick at BNN. We have to keep going, Daan.”

Media journalist Jef Willemsen does not understand what Eddy means by this. “Oof. An unexpected, icy, uncomfortable moment with Eddy Zoëy at this RTL Boulevard about the NPO scandal. What the heck was that about?“, he writes X.

‘Highly remarkable’

TV viewer Lianne saw it happen live and cannot place it. “Very normal question from Daan, but this answer was really, really strange. His whole face changed too.”

Jef thinks it’s very strange. “Highly remarkable. It also seemed to surprise Nieber, so it may not have been intentional. Apparently a nerve was struck. As far as I know, Eddy never worked directly with Sophie, only indirectly in Try Before You Die.”

Attacked Eddy

Curiously enough, this incident is not an isolated incident. Eddy was a guest on the radio show The Friday Move last Friday, where presenter Wilfred Genee spoke extensively about the misconduct at the NPO. When Eddy comes to sit at the table, Wilfred jokingly remarks: “I’m also curious about what Eddy Zoëy actually has on his conscience.”

Eddy then also reacts very strangely. Dead serious and slightly attacked, he says: “I missed the question. What should I have on my conscience? What is it about?”

Not one f*ck

When it is made clear to Eddy that it was just a light-hearted opening question, he says: “Oh, like that.”

A little later in the conversation, Eddy is seriously asked if he has ever misbehaved. He then says: “I really can’t think of a single f*ck. Not at all.”
