Eddy Zoëy has to hand in the presentation of Ranking the Stars for one season now. “It was not really a success with him as a presenter, not to say simply: an outright drama.”
At the end of last year, the RTL 5 top was under fire for bringing back two well-known TV formats, but with a very unsuitable presenter. Deal or no Deal was placed in the lap of presentation puppy Buddy Vedder and Eddy Zoëy was allowed to take care of Paul de Leeuw’s TV child Ranking the Stars.
Horror ratings
How did Eddie do? Dramatically bad. Only in one or two living rooms was a stray viewing number box tuned to him. At one point, only 98 thousand people were watching. That’s a bit how many people watch the afternoon news rerun with sign language interpreter in the middle of the night.
Eddy then turned out to take himself very seriously, because instead of walking around the Media Park with shame on his face, he started to defend his laughable ratings. He had found a well-hidden target group somewhere in which a somewhat defensible market share was scored.
Back to Paul
Long story short: Eddy mutilated that entire format. What’s the sequel now? Well, there’s no sequel. Not for Eddie anyway. The program returns to public broadcasting.
Paul de Leeuw yesterday in front of the camera of RTL Boulevard: “They are vaguely working on Ranking the Stars. We have that back, but that is also the question whether we will make it in the short term, but there are quite a few things in the pen.”
‘Can’t stay here’
Boulevard host Lex Uiting: “Ranking the Stars therefore goes back to BNNVARA, to the public broadcaster. A bit at the expense of our friend Eddy Zoëy.”
Bridget Maasland: “Yes, but he is with RTL. That would not have been possible.”
Lex: “It can be seen again in 2023.”
Downright drama
Show expert Bart Ettekoven was a little more outspoken in Shownieuws. “It wasn’t really a success with Eddy Zoëy, not to say simply: an outright drama. Have you seen that?”
Patty Brard: “Not Zoeyzo.”
Bart: “Yes, that’s what we sometimes call him here. Not Eddy Zoeyzo.”
Does Patty see a comeback in the show? “Richard Groenendijk and I had a great time there, but we got offended and stopped together. I think they like it that way too.”
