Eddy Zoëy does not dare to linger at Boulevard because of MeToo

Due to all the fuss about transgressive behavior, Eddy Zoëy no longer dares to linger at RTL Boulevard for a drink, for example. “I think it’s going too far.”

The MeToo movement has not made life any more fun for Eddy Zoëy. The presenter of RTL Boulevard feels limited by it, a bit as if he is in a straightjacket. When asked whether much has changed in the television world, he says emphatically: “Yes, and not always positively.”

‘We’re moving on’

Eddy thinks that people nowadays impose a lot of restrictions on themselves. “I think it is good that attention is paid to a safe working atmosphere, that is what we talk about in the RTL editorial staff. But I also think that we sometimes go too far in what is and what is no longer possible,” he says in conversation with Libelle.

Does he have an example of that? “I no longer go out for a drink with colleagues after a broadcast. All I have to do is have fun and someone will feel hurt.”

Every year album

Yet Eddy absolutely does not want to stop his television work, because it allows him to finance his painting and music hobby. “I just made another single and release an album every year. Every now and then there is a song that is popular in England on Spotify. That’s nice. But really breaking through, no, that won’t happen again.”

Eddy’s music hobby remains very much at an amateur level. Doesn’t that bother him? “No. I’m resigned to it because I really tried everything to make that dream come true. In the meantime I have made six albums and I have a fantastic memory of the recordings in the famous AIR Studios.”

56 years

Eddy is almost ready for retirement. He can enjoy that with his girlfriend, who is more than twenty years his junior. He is 56, she is 34. That sometimes feels uncomfortable, he says, for example, when he turned fifty. “A cake was brought with fifty on it and I saw people looking at us.”

It keeps you young, the presenter concludes. “I feel younger than I am and according to my son I am too. You can ask me anything about social media.”
