Ed Sheeran paid a visit to the Artis zoo a few weeks ago, the morning after his concerts in Amsterdam. He was not alone there, because his children were also with him. Paparazzo Ferry de Kok spotted the company and delivered the images to Private boss Evert Sankrediets. He immediately threw those images online.

Angry letter from Ed

Evert was only too proud of it. ‘Ed Sheeran: now look at monkeys for yourself… in Artis!’, was the headline of his article on the Telegraaf site. But that article is now taken offline. What is going on? Evert and his fellow gossip bobos have received an angry letter from Ed’s lawyer.

The British superstar is not served by media that publish photos of his children. “Ed Sheeran is standing on his hind legs and does not want those photos to be published,” explains Evert in Shownieuws.

‘He’s serious about it’

Evert can do little against it. “He invokes the same court judgment on which Willem-Alexander and Máxima based that media code, so it is simply strong. Those photos are still being sold sparsely, but only with the children unrecognizable in the picture.”

He continues: “Ed is very serious. He does not want his children to be in the picture and we have to accept that.”

Threatening letter

The letter was very threatening, adds Weekend boss Bart Ettekoven. “Of course we often receive letters to the editors of lawyers, but when it comes to Dutch stars, it is always in a fairly friendly tone, of: ‘Would you mind taking into account that…?’ But this was quite threatening.”

He continues: “Even that you think: such an Ed Sheeran will not finish it for a thousand euros in such a court, nor for two or three thousand euros. Then you’re probably talking about tons right away, so you don’t want to make them angry. So I was very happy that I had at least left those photos behind.”

‘Don’t do it again!’

Dutch celebrities who do not want their children in the media can simply let the magazines know. According to Bart, this has already been done by, for example, Bas Smit and Nicolette van Dam, but also by Ali B. Evert goes along with it: “Unless they constantly put their children on Instagram.”

Did the English media also post those Artis photos of Ed? “Yes, but only with the back of their minds. They already knew a little more about Ed Sheeran there than we do here. I did post them, both in the newspaper and in the magazine, but now it’s just like: ‘Don’t do that anymore.’ Well, then we won’t do it again.”
