Ed Sheeran followed for personal docuseries: ‘Was something completely different from what I thought’ | show

Ed Sheeran has been followed for Disney for a documentary and the result will be seen in four parts from May 3 on the media company’s streaming platform. The singer has announced this through a message on Instagram.

“I have always been protective of my personal life,” Sheeran writes. “The only documentary I ever made was one that focused on my songwriting,” until Disney approached him to make a documentary about the creation of his next album Subtract.

‘Initially, the documentary was just that, a documentary about the making of an album,’ he continues. “But as my life took some major turns, the subject matter of the album changed, and so did the documentary. It turned out to be something completely different from what I thought it would be’

Context

The twists that Ed Sheeran talks about were dramatic. For example, a tumor was discovered in his pregnant wife and his best friend Jamal, who played a major role in the start of his career, died. “I wanted to give context to the album because it touches on very personal things that we all go through,” said the singer.

Sheeran also describes that he had to give confidence to others for this, so that it would not become his own colored version of reality, but a more neutral image. “And actually an accurate reflection of who I am, even if it’s uncomfortable to look at.”
