Granell’s career had been rewarded with admission to the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences, the Order of Civil Merit, the aforementioned Creu de Sant Jordi or the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X el Sabio, among other distinctions.

He had also held various positions of responsibility in European organizations and the United Nations (UN). In recent times he had stood against the independence process and had shown his rejection of urban projects such as the ‘superblocks’ in the city of Barcelona.
