- European indices are likely to open slightly weaker

The futures markets point to a slightly lower open for today’s European session. The US index futures trade above yesterday’s close after Meta released a better-than-expected quarterly report and is up over 11% in after-hours trading. At the foreign exchange market A mild risk-on sentiment is evident as safe-haven currencies like JPY, USD and CHF give in.
Today’s economic calendar includes the release of Q1 GDP from the United States (2:30pm GMT). The report is expected to show a slowdown in annualized GDP growth compared to Q4 2022 and an acceleration in core inflation (PCE). The data will be closely watched as the Fed will meet and decide on interest rates next week on Wednesday 3rd May. In addition to the US GDP data, traders will also be offered the CBRT rate decision (no change expected) as well as Amazon’s after-hours figures on Wall Street.
