The European stock market indices will open slightly weaker today. This is in reaction to weak trading on Wall Street yesterday and in Asia Pacific earlier this morning.
The Jackson Hole Economic Symposium is the main event of the day. While it opened yesterday, today the most important speeches will be given. These include a speech by Fed Chair Powell at 4:05 p.m. and a speech by ECB President Lagarde at 9:00 p.m.
As for the economic releases, at 10:00 traders are offered the German IFO index for August as well as a revision of the University of Michigan index for August. Speaking of revisions. The revised German Q2 GDP report was released at 8am today but offered no surprises. On a quarterly basis, stagnation was confirmed (0.0% qoq). On an annual basis, the German economy shrank by 0.6%.

4:00 p.m. – US, University of Michigan Index for August (final). First release: 71.2
