Francesco Gioviale, a 47-year-old runner from Salerno was found lifeless along a stretch of the route of the Trial dei Monti Ebolitani race. The man was one of the participants in the competition that took place yesterday in Eboli (Sa) and, during the final stages of the race (at the last kilometer), he had lost his tracks by covering the last kilometer. After the alarm raised by the organizers to the Carabinieri of the local Company, the searches carried out by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Campania immediately began. This morning, during a search, an artifact was found that directed rescuers in an inaccessible area under some walls, the last part of the race. in which the race regulations recommended caution, that is, not to run.

The athlete’s body was found a hundred meters further down the slope by the technicians of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Campania together with the volunteers of the Mountain Rescue Dedalo of Giffoni Valle Piana (Sa). Having received the authorization from the competent magistrate for the removal of the body, the recovery operations by the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Campania have begun. The Eboli Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade and the Eboli Carabinieri also participated in the operations.
