Eberl: Leipzig is negotiating Gvardiol – income is approaching a league record

Promises “inspiring team”

Josko Gvardiol (21) should already agree personally with Manchester City. Max Eberl now spoke of negotiations with the English about a fee that would almost raise RB Leipzig’s income to record levels before the upcoming season. However, the managing director of Sachsen does not see a sell-off. Some names that could fill the gaps have already emerged.

Eberl promised the fans of RB Leipzig that, despite the top-class departures, he would put together “a great and exciting team”. “I can understand the disappointment and concern of the fans. No club, no responsible person and no coach in the world likes to lose players of this format,” Eberl told the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”. However, the two-time cup winner was not “unprepared”.

Compared to the previous season, top performers Konrad Laimer (free transfer to Bayern Munich), Christopher Nkunku (60 million euros/Chelsea FC) and Dominik Szoboszlai (70/Liverpool FC) have already left the German Cup winners. In addition, defender Gvardiol wants to switch to Champions League winners Manchester City. According to reports, Leipzig has called for a fee of 100 million euros plus bonuses, which the English champions would probably serve.

Eberl on Gvardiol talks with Man City – income at BVB record level

“Josko and his advisors have given us their wish to move to Manchester City,” confirmed Eberl: “We are in talks with Manchester. There is nothing more to say about it at the moment.” With the previous earnings and the additional at least 100 million euros from a Gvardiol sale, RB Leipzig would already have income of over 230 million euros this summer. The 200 million mark was only broken by a German club once, in 2017/18. At that time, BVB recorded around 240 million euros in income, which increased to 270 million euros thanks to bonuses from the sale of Ousmane Dembélé. Leipzig currently has a transfer plus of around 65 million euros, which is available for newcomers. There are a few candidates.

About the newcomers Christoph Baumgartner, Benjamin Sesko and Nicolas Seiwald, Eberl said: “We have already signed really good guys and will bring in other, extremely exciting players.” RB Leipzig have already managed in the past to “absorb blatant departures “. Gvardiol’s change should be caught with two newcomers, as the “kicker” writes.

The hot candidate is Feyenoord’s right-back Lutsharel Geertruida (22), for whom an initial offer from Leipzig of over 20 million euros is said to have been rejected. Castello Lukeba (20) from Olympique Lyon and El Chadaille Bitshiabu (18) from Paris St. Germain are other candidates. The latter was recently on site in Leipzig. As a (cheaper) alternative to Lukeba, the name Abakar Sylla (20) from FC Bruges was recently mentioned.
